Family Assistant/Nanny

 

Position Summary:

Our client, a professional couple with school-aged children, is seeking an experienced, polished, and energetic Family Assistant/Nanny to support the smooth daily operation of their Charleston, SC home. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who genuinely enjoys engaging with children, brings strong household management skills, and is willing to assist with cooking, light housekeeping, errands, laundry, and family logistics.

 

This is a busy, active household with a zero-tolerance approach to recreational screen time for the children. The successful candidate will be active, smart, positive, engaging, and comfortable serving as a strong role model while partnering well with the principals and existing housekeeping team.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Support the family in the smooth daily operation of the home, children’s schedules, and household routines
  • Serve as a positive, engaging, and active role model for the children while building a warm, appropriate connection with them
  • Maintain a no recreational screen-time environment by providing structure, conversation, creative play, reading, outdoor activity, and other age-appropriate engagement
  • Run errands, shop for groceries and household supplies, maintain inventories, and restock proactively
  • Keep the residence orderly; perform daily household pickup, light housekeeping
  • Plan and prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks
  • Perform household laundry, and stain treatment as needed
  • Help walk the family dog a few times/week
  • Coordinate vendors, deliveries, service providers
  • Identify household needs and take initiative with organization projects, seasonal edits, etc.

 

Childcare, Scheduling & Logistics:

  • Manage family calendars, school activities, appointments, sports, camps, lessons, events, and daily commitments
  • Keep children organized, prepared, on time, and accountable for age-appropriate responsibilities and chores
  • Drive children to and from school, activities, lessons, sports, camps, play dates, field trips, medical appointments, and events
  • Assist with homework, studying, reading requirements, projects, school platforms, and daily organization
  • Purchase and organize school, extracurricular, camp, and activity supplies in advance.
  • Coordinate play dates, children’s activities, community service participation twice monthly, and activity-day logistics
  • Prepare and pack children for trips, camps, activities, and travel; unpack and return belongings afterward
  • Stay overnight with the children or travel with the family when needed

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience caring for school-aged children or working in a similar Family Assistant/Nanny role.
  • Excellent verifiable references
  • Highly organized, proactive, dependable, punctual, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilities independently.
  • Polished, smart, energetic, active, positive, and comfortable setting an excellent example for children.
  • Warm and engaging with children while maintaining appropriate structure and boundaries
  • Comfortable cooking healthy family meals, performing light housekeeping, doing household laundry, and running errands.
  • Strong communicator who accepts instruction and feedback with ease and works well with parents, children, and staff.
  • Discreet, adaptable to changing routines, and comfortable in a busy family household.
  • Tech savvy and able to manage calendars, school websites, apps, and family logistics.
  • Red Cross, First Aid, and CPR certified or willing to become certified; comfortable supervising children in a pool and at the beach.

 

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday, approximately 10:30/11:00 am to 6:30 pm
  • Flexibility required based on school, sports, family schedules
  • One date night per week (Mon-Thu) and the schedule shifts from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm

 

Compensation:

  • Hourly compensation of $35/hour
  • Benefits include: a healthcare stipend, a vehicle stipend, PTO, paid holidays, sick days, and overtime for anything beyond 40 hours/week
