Private Companion/Personal Assistant
An active, kind and independent individual is seeking an experienced Companion to provide support between residences in Chicago, IL and Palm Springs, CA. The ideal candidate will be warm, engaging, discreet, highly flexible, and comfortable providing companionship and practical support while respecting the principal’s independence and privacy. Flexibility is essential, as the schedule and level of support will vary throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Provide companionship and day-to-day support
- Drive to appointments, errands, shopping, dinners, social engagements, and activities
- Accompany the principal on walks, outings, and appointments
- Prepare simple meals and assist with grocery shopping and ordering
- Assist with dishes, making beds, tidying, and other light household tasks
- Provide calendar, appointment, and reminder support
- Take notes and assist with follow-up from appointments as requested
- Assist with smartphones, television, online ordering, automobile features, and other everyday technology
- Coordinate errands, deliveries, and household needs
- Work collaboratively with existing household staff
- Maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
- Remain flexible and willing to adjust days and hours based on changing plans and needs
Qualifications
- Warm, patient, engaging, and service-oriented
- Highly flexible with schedule and availability
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Tech-savvy and comfortable assisting with everyday technology
- Comfortable preparing simple meals and assisting with light household tasks
- Active and able to accompany the principal on regular walks and outings
- Excellent judgment and ability to balance providing support with respecting privacy and independence
- Prior private household experience as a Companion, Personal Assistant, Household Assistant, Family Assistant, or similar role preferred
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
- Willing and able to reside in Palm Springs during the winter season
- Excellent references required
Schedule
Chicago: Approximately May through mid-December. Part-time afternoon/evening schedule, anticipated to be approximately three days per week beginning around 4:00 PM. Flexibility for later evenings, appointments, social engagements, and changing days and hours is required.
Palm Springs: Approximately Mid-December through April. Full-time with live-in/overnight presence. Private accommodations are provided.
Candidates must be genuinely flexible and comfortable transitioning between the lighter Chicago schedule and the more involved Palm Springs schedule.
Compensation
$100,000–$120,000 annual salary, plus benefits to be discussed with qualified candidates.
